I decided I didn't really like the red Strat. I am not a guitarist and really didn't need a guitar that expensive. So instead I got this one (for about half the price!) And until I really learn to play, this will be my guitar. When I am a ROCK GODDESS I'll buy a custom Fender Strat and make it LOOK like this one

LKJSlain Challenge (courtesy of Megabyyte)
Actually saw this on @Megabyyte's page and decided to give it a try. This originally was a "challenge" by @LKJSlain
1. Your Xanga name and meaning? SherylM - My first name and former last initial (I've since remarried and SherylJ is not available.)
2. How long you've been here? Ten years
3. Do you have more than one account? Yes. My other account started out as NotMarthaStewart to document my "clean sweep" in my house and after that project I changed my name there to Kallioph
4. How many times have you changed your name? on this account: none
5. Name and tag 10 people that keep you here and why, not just bloggers that you like to read/etc, but people who really and truly MEAN something to you (no, it doesn't have to be limited to 10, but let's start there). Tell us what they've done for you, how they've inspired you, how they've been a friend/cheered you up, say something nice about them.
I don't have ten specific people that keep me here. I randomly read blogs and have a short list of friends. I started my blog mostly to have a place to vent, dump, whatever and wasn't really looking for friends.
6. If you ever leave, will you say goodbye first? If I can.
7. Do you have any Xanga crushes? No
8. Are there people on Xanga that you actively avoid? Not really
9. Do you troll? No
(if yes) Are you good at it?10. Has the community been there for you in times of trouble/pain? Yes. During my mom's death, my job loss, my sister's death, my divorce.

Heading out
I have really been trying to get on here more, update more, read and comment more. But this has been a busy week and another busy one is coming up. I'm leaving tomorrow for Arlington, VA and won't be back until Thursday night. I have to take my computer for training, so maybe I can at least catch up on reading during those days.
Did our first caroling today - it was fun and not too cold. Some friends showed up while we were in the middle of a set. I waved to them but by the time our set was over, I couldn't find them.

Thanksgiving Rant
A friend posted this on FB and granted me permission to repost.
Just a small rant before the holiday ... I posted a picture reflecting our armed forces asking "Wal-Mart employees tell me again how working on Thanksgiving is ruining your holiday" - there have been comments all over as people have shared and re-posted this image all over fb.1st I would like to say THANK You to those who serve and sacrifice every dang day for America that we may enjoy the luxury of shopping at Wal-Mart or any other store we choose - growing up in a Marine Corps family there were plenty of times that my father was not home for the holiday's but we knew he was doing his job.Just as my father chose his profession those who work in the retail or service industry's chose theirs - whether due to finances or because they just like the job the CHOSE IT ... these people are not kept in the dark about the hours the stores are open and what their schedule may be - America created Wal-Mart and all the other stores that some clamor to visit during the holiday rush... supply and demand makes our world work ... even on holidays.
I worked in the service industry my entire adult life. My first job as a cashier at the mini-mart on base at Pax River, I worked my first week Thanksgiving Day - and was happy to do so -it meant I would receive a paycheck ... which is what I needed to put gas in my car and pay my car insurance at the ripe old age of 16 ... fast forward through life and I worked in the retail and restaurant industry - I worked Easter, Mother's Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Eve and New Years Day, the places that employed me were OPEN on those days and I was part of the team, it was my JOB ... I knew that I had to work those days just like all the others.
If you choose to not shop at stores like Wal-Mart because you think you are doing the workers a favor, trust me, they'd rather be busy - it makes the time go by much faster - AND believe it or not, most people have FUN at work even on holiday's ... I know I did, there was many a Christmas Eve I got home well after midnight and my husband and I stayed up til 3am wrapping and doing last minute stuff for Christmas morning etc. ... it's part of the deal - you do what you have to do for your family.
Just as those serving our country do what they signed up to do - the Wal-Mart employee or anyone else working in an establishment that offers "holiday shopping, dining, movies, MEDICAL CARE (do you see hospitals closed on holidays?) etc." are expected to do the same. Their job.
It is called a job - it allows for the good times, it allows for life to continue running smoothly. Wal-Mart is for some a career choice, for others it's supplemental income, and for others it is their only income. If there are those who think they are not part of the team and want to cause extra work for their co-workers due to their selfishness and not understanding the job they were hired to do then they need to stay home and let others who are willing to work do their job.
Please remember when you are celebrating this Thanksgiving all of those who are there for you - be kind, enjoy yourself if you have the day off and thank those that are working that you may enjoy whatever it is you plan to do this holiday season.

Self Image
I have known about this phenomenon for a long time - since the first time I was overweight. It kind of goes like this:
You start gaining weight, but you still see yourself as the same person - you look at all of your positive traits and kind of ignore the weight gain.
Then BAZINGA - you see a picture of yourself and can't believe that is YOU. So you are determined to do something about it. And you do. But as you continue to lose weight, in your mind you are still seeing that same person you saw in the photograph.
I'm down 30 pounds and I *KNOW* I look different - because people have told me so. Then why do I still see myself at my old weight when I look in the mirror? Maybe because I'm not yet perfectly proportioned height to weight. I don't know. BUT... last week at chorus the assistant director videotaped us doing some choreography (we're preparing for next April's regional competition in addition to rehearsing upcoming shows). She uploaded the link (sorry, can't share - it's a private site) and I was astonished to see myself standing up there on the risers. I really DO look smaller! People weren't just trying to make me feel better!
Of course, I should know this, since I went from wearing 2X in plus sizes to XL in regular sizes, and went from an 18WP in jeans to 16P (and with the way they are fitting, edging closer to 14).
Being sort of an mesomorph - being short and muscular - I want to get back down to a size 9/10. Anything less than that is way too small for me.
And really. I DO have a six pack under this keg. Just gotta get the keg outta there so the six pack can shine through

Down ~30 pounds
I use the ~ because I weigh myself on a daily basis and my weight fluctuates by a pound or two either way. I weigh less on the days I take a dump before I weigh myself
When the camera really shows the difference, I'll post before and after pictures. Oh hell, maybe I'll do one now.
Here is me at my wedding (on the left), when I weighed the most, and me at opening day of the Lions football season (right) when I was down about 27 pounds. Roger looks shorter than me in the wedding shot because we were standing on the stairs.

Why Rec?
There are always a lot of recommendations in my feed, and I usually go take a look. And sometimes I'll also recommend the blog.
And sometimes I'm not sure why the blog is recommended. But here is why I will recommend a blog:
1. The writer displays an extraordinary talent (vlog, drawing, whatever)
2. The writer makes a very poignant point about something
3. The writer made me laugh
4. The writer is an exceptional writer (makes even a boring subject interesting.)
I won't rec a post just because everyone else is, or just because I agree with them, or just because they are popular. I am always looking for new and interesting blogs to read, and it seems the same blogs keep getting the recs in my feed. It would be cool if someone would rec something they saw that was from an unknown blogger.
That being said, do you have any recommendations for blogs that you read that while not the most popular and never on the top blogs list, are still very worthy blogs?

The election was yesterday's news.
I exercised my right to vote. Happy with some of the results, not happy with others (more than just a presidential election!) Ready now to put it behind and move on.
I'm making plans for having family over for Thanksgiving dinner. Last year my sister Debbie cooked (we bought all the food). She's a great cook. I hope she'll do it again this year!
