Funny how time dims one's memory.
I have a facebook page just because a friend sent me an invitation to join facebook. Just what I need is another social networking site, right? LOL Between here, Delphi, MySpace and Facebook I should be doing a lot of social networking.
So.
When I was in junior high I had a big crush on Rick Coughlin. But one day I saw him roll his eyes when someone said something to him about me, and from that point on, I noticed little actions that told me he wouldn't ask me out if I was the last female on earth. (I guess my crush was one-sided LOL)
So guess who I got a "friend request" from on Facebook? Hahaha - it was so tempting to deny his request.
But I'm beyond that now.
Really.
I am.

Romance. Not for me, thank you.
What does romance mean to you? Are you a romantic person?
I am not a romantic person. All I need is a good, solid relationship. It's exactly what I have and life is good. Keep your flowers and candy. I'd rather play World of Warcraft in the same room as he is playing his own computer game than take a moonlight walk on a beach. I'd rather plan trips together than have one sprung on me as a "romantic gift" when I haven't had any say in where we are going, what hotel we are staying in, etc.
When Mac and I do things together we always plan together. I like surprises on my birthday and Christmas. No other time.
I think I'm just too practical to be romantic lol

What was your first job?
When I was 13 my grandmother offered me a job helping her make beds at a motel on Saturdays for $1 a day. A guy who lived there paid me $5 a week to clean his apartment. Eventually I was working both days on the weekend for $2 an hour (under the table) until I could get working papers. Then the owners hired me and paid me $1.25 an hour (minimum wage at the time) and my grandmother supplemented it so that I was still making $2 an hour. I continued to work there throughout high school. Working there gave me a good sense of the value of money and I had to buy any "extras" that I wanted. So working there paid for me to take a trip to another state to meet my pen pal, allowed me to take our 10th grade trip to Cedar Pointe (amusement park in Ohio), paid for my yearbooks, school pictures, and senior trip to the Bahamas. I bought a nice stereo and had an extensive vinyl LP collection (what I wouldn't give to have that collection today!!)
My grandmother ended up managing the motel starting the year I got working papers while the owners converted three rooms into a corner apartment (the motel was L-shaped). My grandmother retired the same year I graduated from high school and the owners offered me the job of running the motel. It would have included an apartment with all utilities paid, as well as a salary. However, I turned it down because I saw how confining it had been for my grandmother, and I wanted more freedom to come and go.
I have since worked for a tattoo artist, in a head shop, as a cocktail waitress, as a bartender, as a cashier, on the assembly line at a Pontiac Motors plant, housekeeping in a hospital and later in an office building, as a programmer, trainer, tech support, customer support for an online community, web developer, office manager, mail-order clerk, Information Technology Manager and Director of Technology. (Those are the ones I *remember*) Jack of all trades and master of none.
Those don't include my stint in the Navy - where I was discharged during the 5th week of boot camp because I had a bad knee.

Is college education a must for most people in the modern world? Why or why not?
I am answering this question for the U.S. and not for the World. I don't know about the rest of the world.
There are very few people who can make a successful career out of nothing more than a high school education. One rare exception is Bill Gates, who dropped out of Harvard. But he came from a wealthy family who could back his ventures when he first got started. And he is the EXCEPTION, not the rule.
I worked in Information Technology for 15 years - 5 of those years as an I.T. Manager when I lost my job. 15 years ago, you didn't need a degree to get a tech job because there weren't enough people to fill them. After I lost my job, I applied to 100 different companies and the ONLY one who responded was an insurance company asking me to sell life insurance.
I went back to school and got my bachelor of science degree and immediately found a job as a director of technology in a Chicago organization with a very good salary.
I could have gone back to working as a cashier or something and making $25-$30K a year. But why? I kind of like living a good life. And I would not be here now were it not for my degree. I am the only one in my family with a degree and I earn more than all 4 of my siblings put together.
So, no, you don't have to have a degree to "get a job" but it is pretty hard to make a comfortable living (and I mean more than just living paycheck to paycheck) without one.

I am not a true Xangan. . .
. . .at least, according to Xanga! I have been a member here for about 6 years and I am a life member but because I don't come in here every day and blather on and on about nothing when I have nothing to write about nor do I leave pithy comments for every entry I read when I have nothing really to say, I am not a true xangan!
Haha, be that way Xanga! I STILL refuse to come in here every day and blather on and on about nothing and will not leave pithy comments when I have nothing to say!
(this entry is the exception to the blathering rule)

Smiles
Ohmy.
I put the same picture as my profile on MySpace and got an email from someone who said he loved my smile and wanted to get to know me better.
I responded that I was happily married and not looking for a romantic relationship and if he was okay with that, we could be friends.
I should introduce him to my sister!
